Who am I?

I am a proven leader who has devoted almost three decades in service of ensuring positive educational and economic outcomes for all children, regardless of their background. Since 2008, I have engaged clients through executive coaching, instructional coaching, and leadership coaching. This research, development and experience prompted me to launch Nelson Roots in 2021 with our Rooted Coaching work already underway. I started my career as a middle school math teacher in NYC, before serving as a high school math teacher, principal, executive coach, district executive, an adjunct graduate school professor, and academic director/Chief Academic Officer for a reading technology organization. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Salem College, a Masters in School Administration from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, and a Doctor of Education from North Carolina State University. Sitting on the land of the Catawba Indian Nation, I call Charlotte, NC home and enjoy spending time with my husband, family, friends and my dog.
